Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced that it has launched the W921C400/C840 chip series. The product is a fully integrated single chip CMOS solution aimed at telephony applications. It utilizes a 4 bit processor as core and features four built-in sets of multifunction timers, DTMF generator, 8-bit digital analog converter, four sets of external/input comparator, and serial transmission interface. In addition, to being ideal for commonly used dialer phone applications, it can also be used in the capacity of internal memory and I/O for a wide variety of telephone LCDs. The chip can also support an external hardware phase lock function. This means that phone applications that utilize the W921C400/C840 series will only require a minimal number of external parts for a complete solution.
Winbond's W921C400/C840 product line is currently primarily used in multi function feature phones. The regional markets for this product is quite diverse; Taiwan, China, Europe, America, Malaysia and others. Through the flexible design, the chip's use can be expanded for inclusion into other applications including household and consumer electronics products, such as remote control, wireless telephone 900Mhz/2.4GHz and others.
A suite of complete development tools and a flexible design are the most features of microcontrollers. Winbond's W921C400/C840 offers product development tools including a debugging environment, assembly language and test instrument. The suite of tools enables developers and designers to minimize production development cycles and thereby also improve time to market. In addition to significantly shortening the production cycle, the multi rewrite capability of the chip enables customers to lower costs and minimize the risk of production that typically occur as result of software problems that arise during the testing period. Currently, shipments of these chips are showing stable growth; enabling customers to develop a wide variety of products as market demand continues to increase for wireless telephony products.
