Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced a new H/W monitoring IC-W83792D/AD, aiming at server PC and high-end computer application. Integrating both precise analog measurement and delicate digital control functions onto a chip, W83792D/AD is the most up-to-date solution in the hardware monitoring application.
W83792D/AD is an evolving version of the W83791D---Winbond's most popular hardware monitoring IC. In addition to the conventional functions of W83791D, W83792D uniquely provides several innovative features such as support dual CPU VID detect: 2 sets of 6-bit CPU VIDs, either for VRM9.0 or VRD10.1 specifications. (W83792AD supports single VID detect). A 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) was built in W83792D/AD, and it could monitor 9 analog voltage inputs (including power VDD / 5VSB monitoring) and 3 remote temperatures. 3 remote temperature sensor inputs could be linked via thermistors, or directly to IntelTM CPU thermal diode pins. 7 sets of PWM (pulse width modulation) or DC output for Smart FanTM controls are implemented for fan speed control -- "Thermal CruiseTM" mode or speed-cruise mode. Under the "Thermal CruiseTM" mode, the system was kept automatically at a constant temperature set by user. Under the speed-cruise mode, the fan could be operated at the lowest possible speed for minimum acoustic noise. The dynamic intelligent fan management could create the most quiet system environment and stable working performance. As for warning mechanism, W83792D/AD provides SMI (System Management Interrupt), OVT (Over Temperature), IRQ (Interrupt request), Caseopen and 2 sets of Thermal Trip signals for system protection. Nevertheless, W83792D/AD has 2 specific pins to provide selectable address setting for application of multiple devices (up to 4 devices) and wired through I2C interface. W83792D/AD complies with ASF2.0 sensor specification, thus the network server will be able to monitor the environmental status of each client even at OS-absent state by PET (Platform Event Trip) frame values retrieved from W83792D/AD. Moreover, W83792D/AD supports SMBus 2.0 ARP commands to solve the problem of address conflicts by dynamically assigning a new unique address of W83792D/AD ASF command after W83792D/AD's UDID is sent. Also, Watch Dog Timer TM could set up reset time flexible, facilitate your hardware management and monitoring.
Through the application software or BIOS, the users can read all the monitored parameters of the system from time to time. A pop-up warning can also be activated when the monitored item is out of the proper/preset range. The application software could be Winbond's Hardware DoctorTM, IntelTM LDCM (LanDesk Client Management), or other management application software. Besides, the users can set up the upper and lower limits (alarm thresholds) of these monitored parameters.
