Winbond’s air pollution prevention strategy starts with reducing emissions at the source. Process improvementsare used to reduce the amount of pollutants generated to a reasonable level. Pollutants in the missions are thentreated with high-performance control equipment to ensure that atmospheric emissions exceed governmentstandards for pollutant content. All past measurements found that Winbond emissions were all lower than EPAemission standards.

Emissions from Winbond processes are categorized as acidic, alkaline, volatile organic or general emissionsbased on their attributes. General emissions are mainly hot exhaust from machines which do not cause airpollution. Effective air pollution control equipment is used for each type of pollutant. Winbond has installedlocal scrubber equipment for certain hazardous, flammable, FCs and PFCs emissions from production processes.These emissions go through the absorption and incineration process before being channeled to the centralemission washing tower for washing and neutralization of their inorganic acids and alkaloids. Emissions thatcontain VOCs are sent directly to the zeolite rotor for absorption before being treated by vertical incinerators.Our average removal rate for VOCs were higher than 97% over 10 years and exceeded the relevant EPA regulations.

The air pollution prevention and control facilities at Winbond can be immediately switched to a backup systemin an emergency or during maintenance. They are equipped with emergency power and other backup systemsas well as an advanced real-time monitoring system that tracks changes in the system’s operating parameters ona 24-hour basis. An alert is immediately sent if a pre-set threshold is exceeded for immediate action to ensurereliable and continuous operations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
