Winbond Electronics Corporation Monthly Revenue Report For June, 2001

(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation today announced its monthly revenue results for the month of June 2001. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $1.697 billion, a decrease of 59.85 percent when compared with NT $4.227 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for January to June 2001 was NT $13.261 billion; a decrease of nearly 37.63 percent when compared with NT $21.261 billion over the same period last year.

Revenue for June was affected by the continued worldwide reduction of DRAM pricing. However, the Company's consumer products, including speech IC and microcontrollers, performed well due, in part, by seasonal demand. In addition, there was a significant increase of LCD driver IC products delivered last month. This contributed approximately NT$100 million to the monthly revenue. Winbond has been aggressively re-balancing its product portfolio and focusing more effort on the Company's line of Logic ICs. The Company anticipates substantial growth for second half of the year in the area of I/O, LCD driver IC and digital audio/video ICs. Also in the second half of 2001, the Company plans on introducing 2Mb Firmware Hub Flash (FWH Flash). This is part of the CompanyĄŚs strategy to enhance Winbond's memory portfolio and is also expected to drive company revenue. Winbond will continue to focus on improving production technology and controlling costs while developing several niche application DRAM products that are expected to help mitigate the risk of DRAM price fluctuations.
