(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced its monthly revenue results for July 2002. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $2.46 billion, an increase of 54.13 percent when compared with NT $1.596 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for January to July 2002 was NT $14.857 billion, an increase of nearly 23.23 percent when compared with NT $18.308 billion over the same period last year.
July revenues totaled NT$2.46 billion, a slight increase over last month's revenue results. In July, DDR pricing remained more advantageous than pricing for synchronous SDRAM. Hence, Winbond revenues continued to benefit from its line of DDR products, including the Company's DDR333 and DDR400 series ICs. Also in July, the Company's Logic Product Business Group experienced a rapid increase in shipments of short message service (SMS) ICs, particularly in Mainland China and Europe. Revenues increased approximately 40 percent when compared to last month. In addition, the Company received a purchase order from a Japanese customer for its LCD Driver ICs with growing shipments commencing last month. Winbond anticipates additional purchase orders from Japanese and South Korean customers for this increasingly popular product line. This increase in demand should augment LCD driver shipments in the second half of 2002; with shipments for this product reaching an apex in the first quarter of next year. Finally, Winbond has experienced good market response for its line of wireless phone for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) ICs where sales continue to increase gradually.
Looking forward to the second half of 2002, Winbond anticipates that months of concerted technical, marketing and sales efforts for niche DRAM products will begin to yield results. The Company's Psuedo SRAM is already shipping and, under stable market conditions and promising yield rates, benefits in the form of revenue should gradually become apparent. As a result of stronger market demand, shipments of Winbond's six-in-one card reader USB microcontroller also continue to increase. Finally, Winbond anticipates that its flexible product offerings, in concert with new product rollouts, will help drive additional sales in the second half of the year.
