Winbond Electronics Corporation Announces the Financial Results For the Third Quarter of 2005

(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced the Board of Directors meeting, held on October 28, 2005, has approved the Companys audited financial statements for the third quarter of 2005. Net Sales totaled NT $7.819 billion, an increase of 12 percent when compared to the second quarter of 2005. Net loss after taxes was NT $43 million or a net loss per share of NT $0.02. The accumulated revenue from January to September of 2005 totaled approximately NT$ 20.282 billion, a net loss of NT$ 1.372 billion after tax, or NT$ 0.34 net loss per share.

Handset shipments increased in the third quarter when compared to the second quarter. Worldwide PC shipments and the ASP (Average Sales Price) of commodity DRAM also rose in the third quarter. As a result, gross profit as well as operating profit increased in the third quarter versus the second quarter and gross margin was improved to 22 percent. With the operation income totaling NT $57million being offset by the non-operation loss, the operation result in the third quarter was negative.

In terms of memory products, shipments of Pseudo SRAM reached 18,000 wafers per month in the third quarter, an increase compared to 17,000 wafers per month in the second quarter. Low density Flash showed an outstanding performance as well. Nevertheless, a slight drop in Memory business resulted from the decreasing shipment in Specialty DRAM, due to a slower demand in the consumer electronics market.

Thanks to the sales growth in the PC related products, revenue of Logic products increased obviously when compared to the previous quarter. Motherboard related I/O ICs entered into the hot season. TFT-LCD Driver ICs rose in sales owing to both expanded customer base and an increasing market demand. In addition, Notebooks and Servers I/O ICs represented a continuous growth in the third quarter.

Looking forward to the fourth quarter, the Company expects a stable performance for its Pseudo SRAM as the global handset shipment will continue to rise. The growing momentum in sales of PC Super I/O, Notebooks and Servers I/O ICs will also contribute towards the revenue of the Logic products.
