Winbond Electronics Corporation Monthly Revenue Report For May, 2001

(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation today announced its monthly revenue results for the month of May 2001. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $2.127 billion, a decrease of 44.86 percent when compared with NT $3.857 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for January to May 2001 was NT $11.564 billion; a decrease of nearly 32.11 percent when compared with NT $17.034 billion over the same period last year. 

To mitigate the continued risk of DRAM price fluctuations, Winbond has been aggressively re-balancing its product portfolio and focusing more effort on the Company's line of Logic ICs. In May 2001, the Company's DRAM and non-DRAM product lines each contributed approximately half of the total revenue. The Company's consumer speech IC products in particular, reported strong sales due primarily to seasonal demands. In addition, there was a steady increase of TFT-LCD driver IC products delivered last month. The Company expects to see significant progress for this product line over the next few months. Though market pricing for DRAM is still a significant business concern, Winbond continues to focus on its technical development and cost reduction strategies. The Company's goal is to continue to diversify its product offerings by developing a wider selection of ICs that can be used for applications beyond the scope of the PC IC market. This flexible product strategy will enable the Company to further minimize the financial impact stemming from economic downturns and fluctuations in DRAM pricing.
