Winbond Electronics Corporation Announces Revenue Results For September, 2001

(Taipei News)Winbond Electronics Corporation today announced financial results for the month ending September 2001. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $1.675 billion, a decrease of 64.83 percent when compared with NT $4.762 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for January to September 2001 was NT $18.18 billion, a decrease of nearly 50.65 percent when compared with NT $36.838 billion over the same period last year.

Month over month, revenue for September was up slightly. September's revenue was NT $1.675 billion, compared to August's revenue of NT $1.648 billion. This is the second consecutive month that Winbond has reported increased monthly revenue. The Company's Logic IC Business Group reported that revenue contributions had ten percent increase from last month, with increased demand seen for Winbond's multimedia ICs, telephony dialer ICs and Flash memory. To lessen the impact that worldwide DRAM price fluctuations continue to have on business, Winbond has been aggressively focusing on product, marketing and sales efforts for the Company's line of Logic ICs. Since the second quarter of 2001,the Company has steadily expanded its Logic IC product portfolio. In turn, revenue from this product line has been increasing and currently accounts for more than half of the Company's monthly revenue. Future product development for DRAM will focus on application specific DRAM markets and technology. In addition, the Company will continue to modify its DRAM process and design strategy to place more emphasis on niche products.
