(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation today announced revenue results for the month of February 2002. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $2.528 billion, an increase of 13.43 percent when compared with NT $2.229 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for January 2002 to February 2002 was NT $5.173 billion, an increase of nearly 10.93 percent when compared with NT $4.663 billion over the same period last year.
Because of the Chinese New Year holiday and a decrease in workdays, February's revenue declined slightly when compared to last month's revenue of NT $2.644 billion. However, in February the Company experienced an increase in market demand and additional purchase orders. In addition, DRAM pricing in February continued to increase, and with it, an increase in the ratio of 0.175-micron products shipped. These factors all contributed to Winbond's DRAM turning a corner; the Company's gross profit margin for this product line has shifted from negative to positive. The Company's TFT LCD Driver IC shipments have now surpassed 2 million pieces. Winbond estimates that this product line should continue to experience increased demand and should be one of the Corporation's main forces driving this year's growth.
