Winbond Electronics Corporation Announces Monthly Revenues For June, 2002

(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced its monthly revenue results for the month of June 2002. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $2.404 billion, an increase of 41.62 percent when compared with NT $1.697 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for January to June 2002 was NT $15.848 billion, an increase of nearly 15.91 percent when compared with NT $13.261 billion over the same period last year.

Revenue for June showed slight growth when compared to last month's revenue of NT $2.235 billion. The main cause for the increase was the recent stabilization DRAM pricing; a consequence of an industry slowdown in demand. Due strong market indicators that point to DDR fast becoming the defacto standard in the DRAM market, Winbond will continue to increase its DDR production. As one of the few DDR manufactures recognized by Intel, industry production has recently begun to increase, thereby enabling Winbond to take advantage of the relatively high price of DDR. Currently, shipment quantities of DRAM, mostly DDR333, comprise more than half of Winbond's total monthly DRAM production. Higher production levels for products such as DDR400 are adjusted according to the market demand. The Company estimates that it will begin 0.13-micron production in the third quarter of 2002 wherein total dies of DDR chips will double.

Winbond is also beginning to see the effectiveness of its multi-product memory strategy. The Company's Pseudo SRAM, which is aimed at mobile phone and mobile electronics product applications, has started mass production from quarter 2. Winbond will continue to execute on its strategy to provide customers with a complete suite of IC solutions for mobile memory products.
