(Taipei News)Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced revenue results for July 2003. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $2.622 billion, an increase of 6.58 percent when compared with NT $2.460 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for 2003, January to July, was NT $15.577 billion, a decrease of nearly 14.92 percent when compared with NT $18.308 billion over the same period last year.
July revenues reflect an historic high for this year of NT $2.622 billion. This is also a significant improvement, approximately a 22 percent increase, over last month's revenue of NT $2.152 billion. In concert with a worldwide increase in shipments of personal computers and robust demand for DRAM, Winbond's record-breaking sales for July were mainly the result of soaring prices and growing shipments of DRAM products. Moreover, Winbond's DDR-400 product has featured with superior speed and quality performance. In addition, the PC and information industries are transitioning into the high season and OEM's ramping up after maintaining low inventories for the past two months. These factors have caused revenues for motherboard-related ICs to increase. The Company estimates that this trend will continue, gradually yielding increased revenue throughout the second half of the year.
With respect to the Company's Logic business, shipments continue to increase for Winbond's digital signal processor (DSP). The product is used mainly in camera phones. In addition to increased demand for this product by global cellular phone suppliers, Winbond's DSP product has recently been designed-in by a number of customers. The Company expects to ship more than one million DSP chips by October of this year. Finally, due to the introduction of many new products, speech ICs are expected to regain marketshare in the second half of the year.
