Hsinchu, Taiwan, October 28, 2011- Winbond Electronics Corporation today announced the financial results for the third quarter of 2011. Revenue for the third quarter totaled NT$6.92 billion, down 7% QoQ and down 19% YoY. Net loss for the third quarter was NT$ 41 million. Loss per share was NT$0.02.
Total revenue from January to September of this year was NT$21.497 billion with net profit after tax of NT$ 346 million. Earnings per share was NT$0.09.
NOR Flash accounted for 39% of revenue in the third quarter. Due to expanded applications and growing demands from handset segment, revenue for NOR Flash rose 9% QoQ and 12% YoY. 58nm products are expected mass production at the end of this year. Specialty DRAM accounted for 44% of revenue in the third quarter. Self-developed 46nm product will be introduced in 1Q12.As the shipment of ASIC products reduced, revenue of Mobile RAM was less than the previous quarter.
Forecast for Q4 revenue is rather conservative for two reasons: (1) global economic slowdown, and (2) flood damage in Thailand has brought negative impact on the component supply chain. It is estimated that the revenue in Q4 will be lower than the revenue of Q3. Facing the uncertainties in the economic and industrial conditions ahead, we will continue to improve the product mix with higher margins, enhance product cost competitiveness by accelerating advanced technology migration, create more product added values, and deploy the Specialty DRAM market with ongoing innovation.
