(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation today announced its monthly revenue results for the month of April 2001. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $2.405 billion, a decrease of 32.47 percent when compared with NT $3.562 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for January to April 2001 was NT $9.437 billion; a decrease of nearly 28.38 percent when compared with NT $13.176 billion over the same period last year.
For the second month in a row, the company experienced a slight increase in revenue. This was due, in part, to the introduction and rapid market acceptance of new speech and Caller ID ICs introduced in April 2001. The Company's TFT LCD driver ICs products also experienced good response in the market.Last month, Winbond introduced the industry's first Smart@I/OTMchip solution. This IC is the first I/O IC to integrate smart card reader function and interface, and also the first to be certified PC/SC compliant by the Microsoft WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs). The Company also successfully provided the industry's first hardware monitor IC chip with voice alarm function. The Company's strategic global partnerships, including the joint development effort with Toshiba and Fujitsu, continue to make strides. The technology effort with Toshiba and Fujitsu involves developing advanced 0.13 and 0.11 micron DRAM process technology and Winbond expects that this process technology will eventually set a new standard industry-wide.
During this challenging economic cycle in the semiconductor business, the Company will continue to focus its R&D efforts on developing new products and new process technologies. This strategy will help ensure a continuous stream of total solutions for customers and enable the Company to maintain a competitive position in the global semiconductor marketplace. .
