Winbond Electronics Corporation Announces Monthly Revenue Results For March, 2002

(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation today announced its monthly revenue results for March 2002. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $2.960 billion, an increase of 24.95 percent when compared with NT $2.369 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for January to March 2002 was NT $8.133 billion, an increase of nearly 15.65 percent when compared with NT $7.032 billion over the same period last year.

Since July of last year, the Company's monthly revenue results have continued to reflect a steady increase. March's revenue, NT $2.960 billion, is the highest in the past 14 months. The results also show an increase of 17.8 percent over February's revenue. In March, the Company experienced stronger market demand for speech & voice IC, telephone dialer IC and wireless communication IC products due to seasonal demand for Consumer Electronic products. Because of this seasonal demand, Winbond estimates that demand for these products should continue to experience growth for the next few months.

Due to contract amendments with Toshiba, Winbond expects that during the second quarter of 2002, the Company will market and sell all of DRAM products itself. Winbond also estimates that this strategy will lead to an increase in sales and business revenue. Winbond has continued to aggressively ship DDR products. In part, due to the CompanyĄŚs flexible DRAM marketing strategy, recent sales results have continued to improve; Winbond is estimating good revenue results for the second quarter of 2002.
