(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced its revenue results for the month of September 2002. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $2.704 billion, an increase of 61.47 percent when compared with NT $1.675 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for January to August 2002 was NT $23.615 billion, an increase of nearly 29.9 percent when compared with NT $18.180 billion over the same period last year.
Since June of this year, Winbond's sales have been consistently improving. The steady increase in sales is a result of improved DRAM shipments in September; an area where pricing continues to be stable. In addition, LCD Driver ICs, 6-in-1 reader microcontrollers and additional shipments of other Logic IC products helped to drive this month's revenue to $NT 2.704 billion; the highest in the past five months.
To satisfy growing market demands for mobility and low power consumption, Winbond is currently placing strong emphasis on its added value products. After several months of laying groundwork, the Company's niche DRAM product efforts have begun to yield good results. In concert with meeting growing demand for mobile communications in the multimedia arena, Winbond has shipped a small amount of Psuedo SRAM. As part of its strategy to provide customers with complete mobile memory product solutions, the Company estimates that this product line will become a major driver for growth.
Winbond is making progress on its goal to lower the cost per chip. As part of that strategy, the yield rate for DRAM 0.13-micron processing continues to improve and the Company continues its transition to 0.13-micron processing. Currently, 65 percent of the Company's production capability uses 0.16-micron processing with 0.175-micron processing used mainly for niche products such as low density DRAM and FCRAM.
