(Taipei News) April 9, 2003 -Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced revenue results for the month of March 2003. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $2.223 billion, a decrease of 24.90 percent when compared with NT $2.960 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for 2003, January to March, was NT $6.727 billion, a decrease of nearly 17.28 percent, when compared with NT $8.133 billion over the same period last year.
Revenue for March grew approximately 16 percent over the previous month. The improvement was mainly due to increased demand in the mobile communications sector. The biggest demand was in the multimedia services market where cellular phone usage is increasing. Shipments of Pseudo SRAM, one of the Company's main niche specialty DRAM products, and Winbond's high-end DDR400 products continue to grow. March revenue for these products was higher than for commodity DRAM, illustrating the successful implementation of Winbond's multiple memory product strategy.
In the Company's Logic IC business, Winbond experienced improved marketshare. This was due to Winbond motherboard customers securing major orders from global PC companies. Overall, demand for motherboard products and Non Volatile memory ICs increased during what is typically considered the slow season for these products. Conversely, consumer products are currently experiencing increased seasonal demand. Overall, increased demand for motherboard, Non Volatile memory and consumer product ICs contributed to the improved revenue results for March.
