Winbond Announces the Financial Results for the Third Quarter of 2007

(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation held its Board of Directors meeting today on October 26, 2007 approving the audited financial statements for the third quarter of 2007. Net sales totaled NT$ 8.52 billion. Gross profit was NT$ 605 million. Net loss after tax was NT$ 655 million and net loss per share was NT$ 0.18. The accumulated revenue from January to September of this year was NT$ 25.285 billion, net loss after tax was NT$ 1.671 billion, net loss per share was NT$ 0.45.

Compared to the second quarter, the revenue and gross margin of the third quarter had been slightly improved. However, the net income after tax was still a loss due to the flat handset demand and the slow DRAM market. In terms of Memory products, Mobile RAM performed steadily. The increasing customers’ demands drove revenue for Specialty DRAM to grow slightly. As for Commodity DRAM, the ballooning shipment and successful process migration both contributed to the revenue of this quarter.

In the aspect of Logic products, consumer Logic products had a stable performance in which the gross margin of Speech IC was improved by virtue of seasonal peak and a better product mix. Notebook I/O in the computer Logic products segment was hurt by price pressure of domestic competitors. As a whole, the growth of the third quarter was relatively limited compared to the strong base of the second quarter.

Looking forward to the forth quarter, price competition for computer Logic products will continue existing and consumer Logic products are going to enter the low season. As for Memory products, DRAM price will still be soft. The Company has a conservative outlook for the whole performance.
