Winbond Announced Monthly Revenue for September
(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation today announced the revenue results for the month of September, 2008. Revenue for the month was NT$ 1.677 billion, a decrease approximately 9.25 percent when compared with NT$1.848 billion in the previous month. Accumulated revenue for January to September of 2008 was NT$ 18.05 billion.
September business was negatively affected by the soft DRAM price. However, revenue of Winbond’s branded products — Mobile RAM and Specialty DRAM has exceeded memory IC foundry month-over-month. Under the weakening macroeconomic environment, Winbond continues shrinking technology, driving cost reduction, and adjusting production capacity to niche products with steady gross margins, to reduce loss from the economic depression.
Shipments of Mobile RAM ramped up in September. Revenue of Specialty DRAM also demonstrated a positive growth thanks to the migration to the 300mm wafer fab and cost improvement. In the Commodity DRAM segment, most of which was assigned for 70nm technology production to reduce cost, although the weakening price caused revenue drop. NOR Flash performed steadily in this month.
Winbond plans to introduce 65nm in the fourth quarter of 2008. Besides, NOR Flash will also migrate to 90nm technology production during early 2009. Winbond will continue moving forward with its optimum competitiveness.
