(Taipei News)Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced its revenue results for the month of April 2002. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $3.077 billion, an increase of 27.91 percent when compared with NT $2.405 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for January to April 2002 was NT $11.209 billion, an increase of nearly 18.78 percent when compared with NT $9.437 billion over the same period last year.
Winbond's April revenues showed a slight increase of 4 percent when compared with revenue for March 2002. The second calendar quarter is typically the slow season for DRAM so it is common for market prices to soften. However, due to contract amendments with Toshiba, Winbond has increased the sales of DRAM products itself since April. This strategy led to a better selling price so the Company could well minimize the impact of the DRAM price decline than the industry as a whole. Furthermore, In April, Wibnond has sold and transferred all its inventory of multimedia ICs to Cheertek Incorporation, a 99%-owned multimedia IC product design company. Beginning from May, the sales of multimedia products will not be included in Winbond's revenue.
Logic product business group experienced a stable growth. April's revenues of Logic products, excluding multimedia product line, increased by a 7.3% compared to last month. Sales increased for speech and telephone ICs, due in part to seasonal demand. Microcontrollers also yielded good sales, resulting in excellent results for the month.
The Company's Memory Product Group recently executed a multiple product strategy and continues to focus, long-term, on reducing costs. By deploying a product development strategy that addresses niche DRAM, Flash and Pseudo SRAM, the Company's Memory Product Group will be able to provide complete mobile product solutions to the marketplace. As a result of this competitive strategy, and in concert with continued stable revenue growth expected from the Company's Logic Product Group, Winbond anticipates that business for the Corporation should be entering an improved phase.
