(Taipei News) Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced revenue results for August 2003. Revenue for the month was approximately NT $2.782 billion, an increase of 6.9 percent when compared with NT $2.602 billion over the same period last year. Accumulated revenue for 2003, January to August, was NT $18.359 billion, a decrease of nearly 12.2 percent when compared with NT $20.910 billion over the same period last year.
August revenues of NT $2.782 billion reflect an historic high for this year; representing an increase of 6 percent over last month's revenues. Market demand in the motherboard and PC arenas kept DRAM pricing stable during the month of August. This led to a slight increase in average selling price. Winbond's pseudo SRAM, featuring low power consumption and highly density, continues to maintain its leading position in the high-end handset market. As demand improved, shipments continued to increase in August. The Company expects to achieve a run rate of 9K wafers per month in the fourth quarter of 2003.
As the leading supplier of motherboard solutions, Winbond's revenues for this product increased by 20 percent owing to expanding market share and major customers increasing orders. Moreover, shipments of digital signal processor (DSP) ICs, used in camera phones, continued to grow in August. The Company expects that this product line's revenue contribution will yield good results next month.
